
A sketch and fact to celebrate the International Day of the Seal (March 22):
Many Arctic and Antarctic seals will emerge from below the water through ice
holes they carved for breathing and access points. Weddell seals (Leptonychotes
weddellii, pictured here) sometimes use their teeth to create opening they need to
get from ice to sea! Do you think they get brain freeze?
