Despite its name, the Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens) is more closely related to raccoons and weasels, than it is to the Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). Both species are endemic to China, and share overlapping territories and diets. Researchers have found that while they both eat the same species of bamboo, Red Pandas almost exclusively consume the leaves, while the Giant Pandas also eat the stems.
